Rekha Surya trained under Begum Akhtar and Girija Devi, is originally from Lucknow and now lives in Delhi.

Other than Indo Pak Sub-continent she has performed in Washington, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Madison, Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. She has also performed in Norway, Britain, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Singapore.

She has been invited by the Smithsonian Institution Washington, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Cornell University, MIT, Yale, Columbia University, World Music Institute New York, Harvard University, University of Toronto, Nehru Centre London, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan London, Bharat Bhavan Bhopal, National Centre for Performing Arts Mumbai, Ram Vilas Palace Baroda, Roosevelt House New Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and fund-raising concerts.

Hindustani Light Classical singer Rekha Surya trained under Begum Akhtar and Girija Devi. She is from Lucknow and now lives in New Delhi.

She recorded for the Archives of Sangeet Natak Academi in 1994.

In India, she has performed in Mumbai, New Delhi, Calcutta, Dewas, Ujjain, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Indore, Vadodara, Lucknow, Nagpur, Chandigargh, Gwalior, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Burhanpur, Ludhiana, Faizabad, Ambala, Mussoorie.

Outside India, she has performed in Washington D.C., New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Madison, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, New Foundland, Oslo, London U.K., Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and Singapore.

She has been invited by the Smithsonian Institution Washington DC, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Cornell University, MIT with International Hindi Association in Boston, Columbia University, Yale, World Music Institute New York, Harvard University, University of Toronto, Nehru Centre London, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan London, Bharat Bhavan Bhopal, National Centre for Performing Arts Mumbai, Ram Vilas Palace Baroda, Roosevelt House New Delhi, French Ambassador’s residence New Delhi, Canadian High Commissioner’s residence New Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and fund-raising concerts. She represented India at the Asian Music Festival Sri Lanka in 1999 and at the International Falak Festival Tajikistan in 2006.

I will be singing at Anibhav Auditorium on 28th Oct. and in New York at Yale University on 8th Nov. and at Teachers College, Columbia  University on 19th Nov.

5th October 2008 -Singing at Wong Theatre in MIT, Cambridge
